Victim identified in fatal Butler County Christmas Eve shooting

The name of a Christmas Eve homicide victim has been released by the Fairfield Township Police Department.

Keywontae Jaterrance Carter Smiley, 22, of Middletown, was shot about 1:50 p.m. Dec. 24 in Tyler’s Creek Apartments, according to police.

Two adult males were in their car in the 3400 block of Waterfowl Lane when a black male suspect approached them and allegedly tried to rob them, police said. The suspect brandished a firearm and fired several shots, striking the vehicle passenger. The suspect then ran westbound across Wildbranch Road toward Gateway Avenue, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early 20s, 5-foot-6, skinny build, black clothing, including a black hoodie.

Fairfield Township Fire Department transported the gunshot victim to UC Health West Chester, where he was pronounced dead.

This case remains under investigation.
