The 16-year-old fatally shot inside a car outside a Fairfeld Twp. apartment complex had just graduated in May from high school.
Sydney Garcia-Tovar, of Hamilton, was shot inside the vehicle shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday at 7595 Wildbranch Road at the Tyler’s Creek Apartments.
Garcia-Tovar graduated with a high school diploma in May from Hamilton City Schools’ Miami School — located on Hamilton’s West side — as part of that school’s independent learning program, according to Joni Copas, spokeswoman for the district.
In the school’s independent learning program, students can progress at their own pace, Copas said.
During her attendance of Hamilton City Schools, Garcia-Tovar was a member of Hamilton Freshman School’s Navy JROTC program during the 2015-2016 school year, Copas said.
Joseph Goolsby, 21, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening during Monday’s shooting, Fairfield Twp. Police Chief Robert Chabali said.
The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact detective Jamison Mays at 513-785-4178.
