Trial date set for women charged with prostitution at spa

A trial date has been set for two women charged with promoting prostitution after an October raid at a Fairfield Twp. spa.

Butler County Common Pleas Judge Charles Pater set Sept. 16 as the start of a three-day trial for Yunmei Wallis and Xiaoyan Guo.

Wallis, 43, of Livingston Avenue in Dayton, is charged with prostitution and two counts of promoting prostitution. Guo, 47, of Cincinnati, is charged with two counts of prostitution in addition to two counts of promoting prostitution. Both women have filed not guilty pleas.

A third woman, Jiuying Matagolai, 46, of Del City, Okla., is also charged with promoting prostitution and was scheduled to go to trial in May, but the trial date was vacated and no additional court appearances have been scheduled.

Louis Sirkin, a well-known First Amendment rights attorney from Cincinnati, filed a notice of alibi in Matagolai’s defense stating that in the time period the crime occurred, she was in China and included passport documentation, according to court records.

An Aug. 11 hearing has been set for Wallis and Guo when arguments on suppressing evidence in the case are expected to be heard.

After a year-long investigation that included surveillance and an undercover operation, detectives served search warrants at Asian Spa, 3991 Hamilton-Middletown Road, and Wallis’ residence on Oct. 30.

Sheriff’s officials said the business had been open for several months and reports of possible illegal sexual acts being performed in the parlor began almost immediately.
