Passed-out driver in bait shop parking lot tells police she doesn’t drink alcohol

A Monroe woman, found passed out in her running car, was charged with OVI after she told Middletown police she doesn’t drink alcohol and the empty brandy bottle in her car belonged to her mother.

Freddrekka Bonds, 22, was charged with OVI, her first offense within six years; driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and open container after she was arrested last week.

Police were called to Go Fish Bait Shop, 601 N. Verity Parkway, at 7:20 a.m. Oct. 4 after they were told a car had been in the parking lot with its lights on since 3 a.m.

The vehicle was resting against the brick building, according to a police report. Bonds, who was passed out, was in the driver’s side front seat, the car was in drive and it was running, police said.

Police said an open bottle of EJ brandy was in plain view.

Police placed the car in park, turned off the ignition and woke up Bonds.

She told police she was in the area to pick up a friend at 513 Bar, then changed her story and said she was picking up her mother.

Police found Bonds had a suspended driver’s license.

Bonds failed all three field sobriety tests, according to the report.

That’s when she told police she doesn’t drink alcohol, then later said she had a drink the previous night.

She was arrested and police removed the car from the brick wall that suffered minor damage, they said.

During the booking process, corrections officers found .70 grams of marijuana in Bonds’ bra.
