Around 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Smith is accused of failing to yield at the intersection of Petty and Timberhill drives and striking another vehicle. The Mazda 626 operated by Smith was eastbound on Petty Drive when he approached Timberhill Drive at an estimated speed 10 mph over the posted speed limit, according to the crash report.
Darren G. Forney Jr., 24, of Reading, was driving a Mitsubishi Galant south on Timberhill when he attempted to turn onto Petty Drive and was struck by Smith.
The Mitsubishi was pushed into a vehicle parked on Timberhill Drive.
After hitting the vehicles, Smith reportedly left the scene on foot and ran into a nearby apartment. Police later found him hiding in a bedroom closest inside the home where his cousin lives. Smith was reportedly unsteady on his feet, slurring his speech and smelled of alcohol, police said.
Forney was taken by ambulance to Fort Hamilton Hospital for serious injuries.
Smith will appear for a preliminary hearing April17 in Hamilton Municipal Court.
