Officers applied a tourniquet on the wound, and the victim was transported to a local hospital.

Police have identified a suspect who is known to the victim, but no one is in custody.

Hamilton Police Sgt. Richard Burkhardt told the Journal-News today that the incident was a result of a domestic dispute in which another person was also injured.

The shot may have been fired in self-defense, he said. Detectives are meeting with prosecutors about any possible charges.
