Court docs detail claims against Hamilton man accused of sending sexual material to minor

A Hamilton man is facing a felony charge for allegedly sending and receiving sexual material to and from a juvenile, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office was contacted on Oct. 23 by an Arizona law enforcement agency concerning an investigation into social media interaction between a 12-year-old girl and Wayne Barnett, 60, according to court documents obtained by the Journal-News.

Between January 1 and August 25, the girl sent several sexually explicit videos to Barnett through Snapchat, the complaint says.

The Arizona detective was able to confirm Barnett received the videos through a search warrant of Barnett’s Snapchat account, according to the court documents.

Butler County sheriff’s detectives said Barnett initiated the contact with the girl and manipulated her to send the sexual videos and photos.

Barnett, of Fairview Avenue, was interviewed Monday and cooperated with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. Barnett said he sent the material to an underage child. Barnett was booked into the Butler County Jail and charged with pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, a second-degree felony.

Barnett was arraigned Wednesday morning in Hamilton Municipal Court, where bond was set at $50,000. A preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 13.
