Former deputy pleads guilty to sex crime

A former Butler County Sheriff’s deputy has admitted guilt to a sex crime involving a minor.

Michael Baker, 44, of Hanover Twp., entered the guilty plea to sexual imposition today in Butler County Area I Court. He faces a sentence of up to 60 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500. Judge Robert Lyons set sentencing for Aug. 13 and ordered s pre-sentencing investigation.

Baker was involved in inappropriate contact with a 16-year-old girl, according to detectives.

The teen reported the alleged crime to a family member, who called the sheriff’s office. Baker was arrested in April and fired a short time later following an internal investigation and hearing.

Baker was a canine deputy who joined the sheriff’s office in April 1997. He is free on bond.
