McDonald stabbed 38-year-old Johnny Quintana of Elm Creek at 12:55 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Odessa Road, according to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.
The two men were traveling in separate vehicles on a county road and U.S. Highway 30 in Odessa when they exchanged words and exited their vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office.
McDonald then allegedly stabbed Quintana several times, the sheriff’s office said.
A citizen armed with a handgun held McDonald at the scene until a Nebraska state trooper arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.
Quintana was in fair condition at CHI Health Good Samaritan after being stabbed nine times in the stomach, chest, face, head and neck, according to the Kearney Hub.
McDonald is a senior at the online virtual school of Mason City School District, district officials told the Journal-News on Thursday. He has not been a student attending classes in the district since the middle of the 2013-2014 school year.
