Mars, Saturn visible near the moon this week

Clouds are expected to decrease the next few nights providing a great chance to view Mars and Saturn. September 17 through 19, the two planets will be near the bright waxing gibbous moon.

“Head outside after sunset and look to the southern sky once it gets dark,” Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said. “It should be easy to find the moon first, then on the 17th, you'll see the moon closest to Saturn with Mars to the far left.”

On the 18th, the moon will be positioned between the two planets. On the 19th, the moon will be next to Mars.

“Mars will look different from Saturn because it will have a slightly orange-red tint,” Zontini said.
