Middletown City Council Tuesday approved a nearly $2.27 million contract for the 2018 street paving program

Council approved the contract with Barrett Paving Materials of Fairfield to pave six streets what all were rated on the Pavement Condition Index as poor or worse, or a PCI rating of 50 or less.

Streets with a PCI rating of 50 and higher are considered in fair condition, while streets rated 70 or higher are considered in good condition.

This year’s winning bid was 10 percent lower than the engineer’s estimate of $2.52 million and 1 percent lower than the next bid submitted, according to a staff report submitted by Scott Tadych, public works and utilities director.

The six streets to be repaved and their PCI ratings are:

  • South Breiel Boulevard (from Lefferson Road to Oxford State Rd.), which had a PCI rating of 30.
  • South Main Street (from 18th Avenue to the city limits), which had a PCI rating of 47.
  • Goldman Avenue (from Orchard Street to Highland Street), which had a PCI rating of 18.
  • Lewis Street (from Jackson Lane to Eaton Avenue), which had a PCI rating of 22.
  • Marshall Road (Manchester Road. to Riverview Drive), which had a PCI rating of 44.
  • Park Lane (the entire street), which had a PCI rating of 33.
