2 more churches join Butler County homeless program

A Middletown church-based homeless program has added two churches this year, organizers said.

Serving Homeless Alternative Lodging Of Middletown (SHALOM) announced that Quest Church and Stratford Heights Church of God have committed to hosting and serving homeless guests this winter, said Bill Fugate, one of the coordinators.

This will increase the number of host churches from 11 to 13, he said.

He called it “great news and truly a wonderful blessing,” but said SHALOM still needs area churches to serve as overnight host churches.

The host churches serve the homeless for seven nights during the winter. The churches provide a dinner and breakfast every day. For more information about being a host church, contact Fugate at shalomhomeless@gmail.com.

Quest Church, 6933 Hendrickson Road, will host homeless guests the week of Feb. 11-17, 2018, Fugate said. Quest Church has been a SHALOM partner church alongside First Presbyterian for several years, he said.

Stratford Heights Church of God, 4419 Nelson Road, will host homeless guests the week of Feb. 18-24, 2018.

SHALOM will open its doors for the 16th consecutive winter on Nov. 26.
