A Middletown bank president will give the city and region a voice on the Savings and Loan Associations & Savings Bank Board.

American Savings Bank President and CEO Fred DeBiasi was appointed May 1 by Gov. John Kasich’s office to a three-year term on the board that advises the Division of Financial Institutions on matters related to the savings and loan and savings bank industries in Ohio.

“I think it speaks well of our area in Southwest Ohio, particularly Middletown, to be represented on a statewide board,” said DeBiasi.

DeBiasi is a 22-year veteran in the banking industry and has spent the past six years leading American Savings Bank, a locally based financial institution.

“It’s considered a service back to the industry,” said DeBiasi of the board nomination. “It’s an honor to be chosen and to give back to the industry.”

DeBiasi spent 16 years with First Financial Bank and is a graduate of Miami University.

Department of Commerce spokesman Brian Hoyt said the board, which is an advisory board to the superintendent of financial institutions, “makes sure that voices are heard throughout the state and throughout the industry.”

DeBiasi, a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, was recommended by the Ohio Bankers League.
