Rural Butler County home damaged by fire

Several fire departments fought a blaze Monday afternoon at a house in Milford Twp.

Fire broke out about 4:10 p.m. in the back of the large, two-story residence in the 100 block of North Main Street in the area of the former village of Somerville.

Flames were visible on the back porch, then spread to the main house, according to scanner traffic from firefighters.

Fire departments from Milford, Wayne, St. Clair, Oxford and Madison townships and the Village of Seven Mile were called to fight the fire.

Butler County Sheriff’s deputies talked with the homeowner, Lawrence Streit, who said he was not home with the fire started. Red Cross was called to assist.

An arson investigation team was requested by Milford Twp. Fire Department to investigate, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The fire department personnel, which is volunteer, could not be reached today for more information.
