Riverview has a royal time for Right to Read Week

HAMILTON — The Riverview Elementary School Royals knighted some of their own and gave the Queen a majestic haircut to cap off their Right to Read Week activities.

The week’s theme was, of course, Reading Royalty.

According to teacher Tricia Paugstadt, students made a class coat of arms to represent their homeroom and grade level pods were decorated in  medevial themes.

“Students kept track of their reading on crown-shaped reading logs and  bookmarks with jewels to be colored in after reading,” she said.  “If students exhibited positive reading behaviors they were entered into a contest to be one of ten students to give our queen (Principal Mary Anne Hughes) a royal haircut at the closing ceremony.”

Also, two students per homeroom were also chosen based on reading minutes, reading behaviors and teacher observation to be knighted into the Queen’s court during the closing ceremony on Friday, when the Queen had her royal locks trimmed.

Paugstadt was also happy to report that the Riverview Royals logged a total of 62,813 reading minutes in the week.
