It is always popular at community demonstrations, which is where it was Thursday. Officers had the robot on display during the Alive After 5 event in downtown Hamilton.
The robot has been used to disarm pop bottle bombs in mail boxes and two suitcases sitting outside former House Speaker John Boehner's West Chester office, as well as live shells found stored in basements.
Specialist Mike Grimes, bomb squad commander, said the department has two robots, Gort and Baby Bot. The smaller of the two is used for reconnaissance, but Gort has many uses.
The robot is equipped with a deceptor tool similar to a 12-gauge shotgun that can shoot bullets or water. The water can be effective on people and suspicious packages, according to Grimes.
Gort can also be used as a negotiating tool from a safe distance.
“We can also make up our own little bombs and deliver them if needed,” Grimes said.
