9 key points in Middletown state of the city address

Middletown Mayor Larry Mulligan will speak about the city’s accomplishments and challenges tonight during the annual State of the City address.

The speech will begin at 6 p.m. at the Middletown High School Community Room, 601 N. Breiel Blvd.

In addition, Chris Urso, president of the Middletown Board of Education, will also present a community report on the state of the Middletown City School District.

Here are nine things that Mulligan’s address is expected to cover:

New businesses in the city, including NTE Middletown Energy Center, Kettering Health Network Middletown, and new construction at the MADE industrial park

Downtown activity such as the upcoming renovation of Goetz Tower

Progress on the city's master plan and components that include downtown, the airport and transportation

Quality of life improvements such as the opening of The River Center

Housing issues

Road and paving projects

The settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency and the plan concerning the city's sanitary sewer system

The city's work to address the opioid epidemic

Workforce and education issues
