Hamilton man struck, killed by train in Kentucky

Kevin D. Jackson played in Hamilton-area softball leagues and was a pitcher on the 1991 Fairfield High School state champion baseball team.

Dexter Jackson said he doubts if he’ll ever know exactly how his son Kevin Jackson died Saturday in Danville, Ky.

“Pure and simple, it was an accident,” Dexter Jackson said.

Kevin D. Jackson, 38, formerly of Hamilton, died Saturday night after he reportedly jumped on a moving train and fell, according to Danville police Chief Tony Gray.

Gray said Kevin Jackson was reportedly hanging onto the train when he slipped and fell off of the train. He said Mr. Jackson was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m. Saturday by Boyle County Coroner Donald Hamner.

The final autopsy report had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon, Gray said. He also confirmed a local news report that Mr. Jackson may have consumed alcohol prior to the incident.

“It sounds like it was an unfortunate accident,” Gray said.

Dexter Jackson said his son, his only child, was an avid outdoorsman who “loved fishing in Kentucky” and had moved to Danville in early October.

He said his son was self-employed and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. He also played in Hamilton-area softball leagues and was a left-handed pitcher on the 1991 Fairfield High School baseball team that won the state championship.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
