District offices move to new building

Fairfield City Schools administrators have gone back to kindergarten.

That is, they’ve gone to the district’s Kindergarten Center, which as of this past week housed the new district office and intake center. It’s located at 4641 Bach Lane and is now called the Fairfield Administration building. The former offices on Donald Drive, which were suffering water damage, will be used for storage, said Gina Gentry-Fletcher, the district’s spokeswoman.

“It’s the first time in 21 years that we’ve had all the department heads together,” said Superintendent Paul Otten. “It’s kind of a one-stop shop.”

That applies not only to the administrators, but to the public as well. Residents will no longer have to travel between different buildings to visit different departments.

“In the old building, parents needing to register new students or kindergartners had to do so in the back of the building, which was confusing and very unwelcoming to the public. In the Fairfield Administration Building, the Student Registration Center (as it has been renamed) is in the front of the building,” she said.

The building on Donald Drive was also in need of a new roof, which would have cost $180,000, Otten said.

However, the district managed to complete the entire renovation project for about $200,000, Gentry-Fletcher said. This was accomplished by having the work done in-house.

“The employees who have done this work have taken such pride in the transformation. Their know-how and cost conscious, yet quality approach to this project has been phenomenal. Without them, this project probably would not have happened,” she said.

The building served as the kindergarten center from 1995 to 2011, when it was closed and the kindergartners were moved into the elementary buildings.
