Woman trapped in basement by ex-boyfriend

A Middletown man faces several charges after police said he kidnapped, beat and trapped his ex-girlfriend in his Middletown basement.

Police responded to a home in the 2100 block of Logan Avenue after Alicia Moore, 35, called 911 for help.

“Please hurry I’m in the basement,” Moore whispered on the phone to the dispatcher. When asked if she could stay on the phone, Moore said, “I can’t. If he wakes up he will hurt me.”

Police said Billy Malicote, 44, threatened to kill Moore and assaulted her several times during a seven-hour period.

“She’s got two black eyes, a broken nose, some bruised ribs, a concussion. She advised she was knocked out during one of the assaults,” said Middletown Police Lt. Scott Reeve.

Moore told officers that Malicote is her estranged boyfriend. After agreeing to meet Malicote last Thursday at her home in the 300 block of Garfield Street to talk, Moore said Malicote became “extremely irate” after she told him she had a new boyfriend, according to police.

“He pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her. He was extremely distraught about her refusing to get back together,” Reeve said. According to a police report, Malicote forced Moore at knife point to get into his vehicle and show him where her boyfriend lives. Later in the evening, police say Malicote forced Moore into his basement at 2102 Logan Ave.

Police say he continued to assault her while she was trapped in his basement.

“He destroyed her cell phone and after he fell asleep she used his cell phone to summon the police department,” Reeve said.

After he was placed in handcuffs, Malicote charged at Officer Brook McDonald, according to police.

“Malicote made numerous attempts to strike McDonald in the face with his head. He was ultimately tased” by a police officer, according to the report.

Malicote remains in Middletown City Jail and is charged with felony kidnapping, assault, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, for arraignment.

According to Middletown Municipal Court records, Malicote has been arrested several times since 1989. He has been previously charged with domestic violence, drug abuse crack, trafficking drugs and marijuana cultivation.

Moore told officers that Malicote has physically abused her for years.

“She has lied to police about causes of her injuries in the past. It has escalated to the point where she tried to get away from him and when she went back one last time, it got very violent,” Reeve said.

“If you’re in an abusive relationship, don’t think it’s going to get better on its own,” Reeve said.
