An Oxford taxi driver was among those who received OVI citations during Green Beer Day festivities.

An Oxford officer on patrol with a Miami University officer March 15 said he saw a man behind the wheel of a Swerve ‘Em taxi parked on South Oak Street discard what appeared to be a beer bottle, which rolled partially under the car.

The officer approached and saw the driver lean toward the console and manipulate something inside.

The man was told to get out of the vehicle after officers smelled alcohol, according to a police report.

The driver was asked about the bottle he had tossed out and he apologized. He said a previous passenger in the taxi had left the beer there.

The police report noted the driver’s speech was slurred and he performed poorly on the field sobriety tests. Another Miami officer arrived with a portable breath test machine, and the driver tested .196.

“I was drinking a little, but I was about to go home,” he told police.

He produced a .159 breath test reading at the Oxford police department.

The driver, identified as Manvinder Singh, 24, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle intoxicated.

In addition to the OVI charge, Singh was also charged with littering and possession of an open container.

The taxi was towed and Singh was given an automatic license suspension.
