5 arrests at Green Beer Day checkpoint in Oxford

An OVI checkpoint and saturation patrols during Green Beer Day in Oxford yielded five arrests, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

One person was arrested for OVI during a 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. OVI checkpoint OSHP conducted Thursday in conjunction with the Butler County OVI Task Force, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Miami University, Oxford Twp. and the City of Oxford police departments at the intersection of North Main and Church streets in Oxford, according to an OSHP release.

There were 689 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint.

Saturation patrols in the area through 6 p.m. made four additional OVI arrests. In addition, they issued nine seatbelt citations, one underage consumption citation, six moving violation citations, and one minor misdemeanor drug citation.

On Thursday afternoon, the off-campus house parties began to grow in size and enforcement efforts focused on these parties, Oxford Police Chief John Jones said.

From 2 a.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. Friday, police made the following number of arrests and citations:

  • 26: Underage possession/consumption
  • 17: Noise violation
  • 6: Littering
  • 6: Open container
  • 5: Disorderly conduct/public intoxication
  • 2: Jaywalking
  • 1: Fake ID
  • 1: Nuisance party
  • 1: Obstructing official business
  • 1: Criminal trespass
