“Sloan stated that she did not end up going to the store because she fell asleep as she had not slept the night before,” the affidavit said. “Sloan stated she did not know it was against the law to lock her son in the basement in an attempt to keep him safe from her mother who Sloan stated has custody of her son.”
Sloan told police she locks the basement door with a padlock to keep items from being taken from her.
“Sloan stated that her son was asleep downstairs and she did not want to wake him up so she could leave so she just locked the door so her belongings would be safe,” the affidavit said.

Officers also spoke with Sloan’s mother, the custodial parent, who said Sloan locked the child in the basement without permission and she was unable to open the door to check on the him due to the padlock, the affidavit said.
While officers were searching Sloan, they found “a short blue straw in her front sweatshirt pocket,” which Sloan said she used on a Xanax, the affidavit said.
