A Boynton Beach woman is facing after she allegedly threatened a woman with a machete outside the Lantana Road Branch Library, according to an arrest report.

The two women got into a dispute Dec. 8 after the alleged victim, a 39-year-old woman, said she was nearly hit by a pickup driven by Makini Zakkiyya East, the report said.

East allegedly responded to the argument by taking a machete from the bed of her truck and walking toward the other woman.

East told Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies that she didn’t know the other woman’s intentions, so she went into “protection mode” by arming herself with the machete. East added that it is “her right to carry a machete,” the report said.

But a witness told deputies that East pursued the alleged victim up to the entrance of the libray, at Lantana and Lawrence roads just west of the Lantana airport, then demanded the woman come out and fight her.

East said she carries a machete in her truck because she does lawn work, the report said.

East, 24, walked out of the Palm Beach County Jail on Dec. 9 on supervised release.
