Fire units from throughout the county assisted Fairfield Twp. Tuesday night for a fire the damaged a large storage building.

Firefighters were dispatched at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to Advantage Self Storage on Tylersville Road and found heavy smoke coming from a unit that houses about 75 units, according to Chief Tim Thomas.

Thomas said five units sustained substantial damage but the entire building sustained smoke damage.

“The fire is under investigation,” Thomas said. “We are not sure was going on yet.”

But the chief said the fire origin has been found in one unit.

Firefighters from Liberty Twp., West Chester Twp., Fairfield Twp., Hamilton and Ross Twp. were at that scene providing manpower.

Thomas said the size of the building with individual units and a hallway down the middle made fighting the fire and clearing the building difficult.

“We had to force entry into the units,” Thomas said, “And some of them were stacked floor to ceiling … you never knew what you would see when you opened it up.”

There were no injuries. Firefighters were at the scene for about four hours.

Investigators from the fire department and the insurance company returned to the scene today to continue the investigation.
