Middletown man threatens to shoot police who responded to disturbance

Domestic disturbance started over peanut butter, police said.

A Middletown man was arrested Tuesday night after a domestic disturbance at his Heather Way residence over peanut butter, according to police.

When officers were called to the house about 8:35 p.m., they could hear yelling from the garage area.

When officers knocked on the door, a man who was later identified as Jeffery Watson said, “I have a gun and I will shoot.”

Watson then began opening windows and doors, yelling that he would shoot police if they attempted to come inside, according to the police report.

Eventually, officers were able to open a garage door and take Watson into custody. They found a black Rohm revolver with yellow grips loaded with two rounds of ammunition in Watson’s shorts pocket.

Watson, 56, was charged with having weapons under disability, a felony; and domestic violence, inducing panic, resisting arrest and having weapons while intoxicated, all misdemeanors.

Jennifer Calhoun, Watson’s twin sister, suffered a gash to her hand and a possible broken arm. Calhoun told officers Watson had been drinking and got upset with her over some peanut butter and began throwing items at her, according to the report.

Calhoun said Watson threw her out of her chair and beat her with her crutches and grabbed a gun threatening to shoot himself.

At the Middletown Jail, police said Watson made comments about wanting to commit suicide by cop. He was transported to a hospital, where police said he continued to be uncooperative, and was later booked into the jail.

Watson remains housed in the Middletown Jail in lieu of $32,000 bond.
