The rider on a Bird electric scooter was seen by an officer ignoring a stop sign on East Walnut Street at South Poplar at 7:17 p.m. Nov. 10.
The officer followed north on Poplar, but the rider ignored the lights and siren and failed to stop. At the intersection of High Street, the man dumped the scooter and ran east.
The officer pursued him for several minutes through a courtyard, alleys and behind houses until losing him in the dark.
The scooter was recovered and taken to the police department for the officer to contact the company in hopes of obtaining the name of the last person operating it.
When located, police said the man will be charged with criminal offenses of fleeing and eluding and obstructing official business as well as a traffic offense of right of way at a stop sign.
