A Middletown man became the 15th person in Butler County to die this year in a crash, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Michael Henderson, 48, was killed Saturday night in a crash on University Boulevard when the sports car he was driving at a high rate of speed rear-ended a vehicle, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a curb, rolled onto its top and came to rest in the roadway, according to the Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers from the patrol’s Hamilton post said Henderson was driving a 2019 Mazda Mx-5 northbound on University Boulevard near Park Lane around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when he hit a 2014 Suburu driven by 82-year-old Barbara Wiegert of Middletown.

Wiegert was transported to Atrium Hospital for minor injuries. She was not listed as a patient this morning, according to a hospital official.

Both Henderson and Wiegert were wearing seat belts, said Sgt. Brian Bost from the state patrol. He said Henderson’s car sustained major damage.

Bost said it’s unknown how fast Henderson was driving or whether he was impaired. Bost said investigators will inspect the air bags to determine the speed and wait for autopsy results from the Butler County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was scheduled for today, according to the coroner’s office.

Last year in Butler County, there were 28 fatal crashes that resulted in 30 deaths, Bost said.
