An area job fair aims to match job seekers with Ohio’s growing biomedical organizations.

BioOhio’s 10th annual Ohio Bioscience Career Fair will feature top employers in the biotech, research and development, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Held in recent years in Mason, this year’s Southern Ohio event instead will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Butler Tech BioScience Center in West Chester Twp., according to said Drew Cook, project and technology manager for BioOhio.

“We’re just looking to move it around fairly often,” said Cook. “We thought this (Butler Tech) was just a good fit because of the educational nature there and a lot of their graduates could have careers in biosciences in Ohio.”

Slated to be at the fair are 11 companies including Assurex Health (Mason), Advanced Testing Laboratory (Cincinnati), Camargo Pharmaceutical Services (Cincinnati), Kaleidoscope (Cincinnati), Medpace (Cincinnati), Nitto Denko Avecia (Columbus), NuVasive (Fairborn), Patheon (Cincinanti), Taylor Strategy Partners (Columbus) and STERIS (Mentor).

Attendance at the career fair is free for job seekers, who are expected to include not only recent and soon-to-be graduates, but also experienced individuals looking for new career paths, Cook said.

“These companies have a wide variety of openings,” he said. “They often times will be looking for entry level positions, as well as people who have a great deal of experience in the industry.”

For example, a medical device manufacturer may have the same skill sets as an automotive or CNC machine shop, Cook said.

“If they’re creating parts and components, then a lot of the same skills will apply, so they may be looking for folks who have a certain skill set that can then transfer over to just a simply different work environment,” he said. “A lot of companies are looking for associate researchers … laboratory technicians … experienced business people … admins. There’s a great variety of positions, generally, so that’s why we … encourage people from a lot of walks of life to come to the fair.”
