Talawanda dominates Ross in second half for win

OXFORD — Three Talawanda High School girls basketball players scored in double figures, and the Braves outscored visiting Ross 40-20 in the second half, to claim a 59-31 win Saturday in Fort Ancient Valley Conference action.

Ana Richter led Talawanda (9-4, 6-1 FAVC) with 19 points, Megan Richardson added 14 and Brilyn Webb scored 13 points in the win.

Kaitlyn Pennekamp led Ross (6-7, 2-5) with 10 points.

Edgewood 37, Norwood 28: Four Edgewood players scored nine points each to lead the Cougars to a Fort Ancient Valley Conference win over Norwood.

Starters Amanda Hobbs, Brittany Marts, Kelsey Swartz and Maura Hackney all finished with nine points to lead Edgewood (8-5, 3-4 FAVC).

Norwood’s Natalie Stoeppel dumped in a game-high 12 points in the loss.

Oak Hills 28, Fairfield 19: Visiting Oak Hills managed to outscore the host Indians by three points or less in every quarter to eke out a Greater Miami Conference win.

Bria Spaulding led Fairfield (4-8, 1-7 GMC) with a six-point effort.

The Highlanders, now 2-10, 1-7 GMC, were led by Mackenzie Laumann’s seven-point effort.

Cincinnati Christian 67, Middletown Christian 19: Nine CCS players scored in the contest, with Hannah Edwards leading the way with a game-high 17, as the Cougars cruised to a non-league win.

CCS blanked Middletown Christian 18-0 in the opening quarter of play. They led 35-9 at halftime.

Allie Burton led MCS with eight points in the loss.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fairfield 66, Lockland 44: The host Indians outscored Lockland 18-8 to start the game, then went on a 15-7 third-quarter spurt to pull away for good.

Brandon Murphy led Fairfield (9-2) with 17 points, Jeff Woods finished with 15 and James Turner scored 10 in the win.

Fairfield will host Hughes for a non-league game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
