MADISON TWP. — Madison High School girls basketball coach John Rossi has run out of words to describe his two standout players.

“What can you say that hasn’t already been said?” asked Rossi, referring to senior Lindsay Hoskins and junior Ally Malott. “Lindsay is the heart and soul of our team, and Ally is a once-in-a-lifetime player.

“I’m very happy to have been their coach.”

The Mohawks (27-1) went further than any other basketball team in school history by competing for the Division III state championship a few weeks ago. They suffered their only loss of the season in that game to finish as state runners-up.

The Madison trio are the top honorees on the 2009-10 JournalNews All-Butler County team. Hoskins and Malott share the Player of the Year honor.

“People say that you never forget your last game,” Hoskins said. “But it won’t be about a loss. I have no regrets. I can look back and realize how successful we were. We were in the state finals. That’s something no one has ever done here.”

“Looking back at the success and all the support we had, it’s very satisfying to have been a part of that,” Malott said.

Rossi is the Coach of the Year for the second time in his six years at Madison.

“This is a nice honor, but it is a reflection of the whole coaching staff, not just one person,” said Rossi, crediting assistant coaches Todd Malott, Cara Wagner, Megan Hogue and Meghan Bruggeman.
