Woman’s identity still unknown 2 years after skull found by kids

The coroner's office was able to quickly identify remains found earlier this week in Butler County woods near New Miami, but that is not always the case.

On March 9, 2015, children found a skull in the woods behind their Gregory Creek Lane home in West Chester Twp.

“They say a picture is worth a thousand words,” Butler County Coroner Dr. Lisa Mannix said in 2015 after a facial reconstruction of Jane Doe was completed.

The woman’s identity, two years later, remains unknown.

The illustration created, along with photos of the woman’s belongings, were entered into NamUs — the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System — which is a database for missing persons and unidentified remains.

The online system that can be searched by medical examiners, coroners, law enforcement officials and the general public.

It is believed the woman was in the West Chester Twp. area in late fall 2014.
