Woman dies while cleaning Middletown High School’s Barnitz Stadium

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.:

The Warren County Coroner’s Office will wait until toxicology results are back before determining a cause and manner of death, officials said.

Those results could take as long as eight weeks, according to the coroner’s office.

More details are emerging after an incident early Saturday morning at Barnitz Stadium.

Charlotte Ferguson Kempf collapsed around 12:05 a.m. Saturday after cleaning a locker room used by referees at Barnitz Stadium, said Elizabeth Beadle, a spokeswoman for Middletown City Schools.

The 35-year-old Middletown woman was working for Crown Services, a temp agency in Monroe.

Ferguson Kempf was with another Crown employee who called for medical assistance, Beadle told the Journal-News.

The woman was revived and transported to Atrium Medical Center where she died, Beadle said.

A 35-year-old Middletown woman died Sunday at Atrium Medical Center after an incident early Saturday morning at Barnitz Stadium, according to officials.

Charlotte Ferguson Kempf was working for Crown Services, a temp agency in Monroe, when she either fell or collapsed around 12:05 a.m. Saturday while cleaning at Barnitz Stadium just hours after the first Middletown High School football game. She was transported to Atrium Medical Center where she died Sunday.

An autopsy was performed by the Warren County Coroner’s Office, but results have not yet been released.

The Middletown City Schools District contracts with Sodexo for maintenance and custodial work and Sodexo subcontracted with Crown, said Elizabeth Beadle, a district official. She said no students were in the stadium at the time of the incident.
