West Chester nursing home resident reportedly raped

Police here are investigating a rape that reportedly occurred at a nursing home last Friday night.

The rape occurred between 9 and 11 p.m. Friday at Heritagespring of West Chester, 7235 Heritagespring Drive, and was reported at 11:29 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

The incident involved a resident at the transitional care facility and nursing home, according to Kim Majick, vice president of marketing for Carespring, which owns the facility.

“Obviously, we are very sad that this allegation has occurred,” Majick said. “We took very prompt steps once we were notified the following day, removing the male caregivers that were on that floor from the schedule, re-conducting background checks on them … which all came back clean. We do that prior to employment, as well, and they were clean then.”

Neither Majick nor police would disclose the woman’s age.

The case remains under investigation, according to West Chester police.

Majick said the facility is cooperating fully with law enforcement efforts and has reported the incident to state officials.

“We’re being very aggressive in our own internal investigation, as well,” she said.
