Two charged in family stabbing

A Liberty Twp. woman was released Friday and her son booked into the Butler County Jail following a domestic dispute that turned violent Thursday morning.

Sharon Grove, 57, of Rockdale Road, was arraigned in county Area II Court on Friday morning on a single charge of misdemeanor domestic violence. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 17.

Matthew Grove, 23, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of domestic violence, after being released from the hospital Friday for treatment of injuries he sustained in the incident, according to Butler County Sheriff’s Detective Rick Bucheit. He is accused of stabbing both parents.

Grove’s husband, 64-year-old Richard Grove, remained Friday in stable condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Bucheit said the incident began when Sharon Grove confronted her son, possibly about drug use or alleged stealing from the household. There was a struggle and Sharon assaulted Matthew with pots and pans.

At some point in the struggle, Richard became involved and the son produced a pocket knife, according to investigators.

Richard and Sharon Grove are well-known business leaders in the Fairfield area. They run Treasure Grove Auctions in Fairfield.
