Auto supplier ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America Inc. confirmed Monday it is moving forward on plans for its second expansion in three years to invest in new equipment and facility upgrades at its Butler County plant.
In 2012, Bilstein completed a more than $6 million expansion for new equipment to manufacture real-time and other new-technology shock absorbers.
It was first revealed publicly in July that ThyssenKrupp Bilstein had another expansion in the works, when the proposed project was approved for financial incentives by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority. Following state approvals, Hamilton city government in August also approved credits on any new income tax revenues generated by ThyssenKrupp as a result of the project.
The incentives were meant to encourage ThyssenKrupp to make the investment, and the project was not yet a done deal until the company’s announcement Monday. To receive the tax credits, the company has to make the investment, and meet a commitment of creating 100 new jobs by the end of 2015.
The city’s estimates are for the new expansion to be an investment of approximately $11.2 million.
Along with the news Monday that the company was moving forward with the local expansion, ThyssenKrupp officials said they will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Miami University Hamilton, 1601 University Blvd.
“If we find enough qualified employees, we are ready to extend up to 50 job offers on Saturday,” said Fabian Schmahl, president and chief executive officer of ThyssenKrupp Bilstein.
There are job openings across the plant, including positions for production, assembly, maintenance, quality, team leaders and supervisors, and engineers, Schmahl said.
Human resources professionals will be onsite Saturday to review resumes and applications, as well as conduct pre-interview screenings, he said.
This year, “the hiring plans have continued to grow,” he said.
Schmahl declined to share more specific details about the company’s expansion plans at this time due to an upcoming earnings release by the parent company.
ThyssenKrupp Bilstein, 8685 Bilstein Blvd., Hamilton, is a growing producer of shock absorbers for automobiles. It is a subsidiary of German multinational conglomerate ThyssenKrupp AG.
Total employment at ThyssenKrupp Bilstein’s four U.S. facilities is up to about 435 jobs as Oct. 1, of which 355 jobs including full-time and temporary jobs are at its Hamilton headquarters.
