Thousands attend Middletown’s Santa Parade

Thousands of people lined Middletown’s downtown streets Saturday for its annual Home for the Holidays Santa Parade.

With the temperatures in the mid-50s and the sun shining, Broad Street was packed with spectators for the parade, which is held in conjunction with Small Businesses Saturday, a national event where holiday shoppers are encouraged to support small neighborhood businesses.

The parade was organized by Linda Moorman. Her husband, Jay, said the crowd was the largest in the parade’s history.

Feaured in the parade were costumed book and movie characters, including Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

Also gracing the parade route were horses, floats, color guards, antique cars, a fire truck, the MidPointe Library System’s bookmobile and four dance groups.

The parade was sponsored by the Middletown Community Foundation. Other sponsors included My Favorite Things Boutique, Light Up Middletown, BeauVerre Riordan Studios, Art Avenue Custom Framing, Legacy Fineart, Murphy’s Landing and Canal Pub at the Landing.
