A unique new Fairfield business will help you relive part of your childhood

Is there a Star Wars action figure you’ve always wanted to add to your collection? A G.I. Joe collection you’re dying to cash in on? You’re in luck.

The Toy Department is set to open Feb. 17 at 6600 Dixe Highway in Fairfield.

The 1,200-square foot store will be run by local residents Chris Neal and James Sawyer, both of Cincinnati, who share a combined 40-plus years of experience in the collectible toy industry. It will both buy and sell toys.

“Some folks may think we are sales only, but we are always interested in buying toy collections, especially Kenner stuff due to the Cincinnati connection,” Sawyer said.

The Toy Department will offer a wide range of collectible toys made over the last 50 years, including Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Care Bears, superhero toys and Funko Pop merchandise.

Sawyer said he was instrumental in running the former retail location of The Earth Collectible Toy Mall in Pleasant Ridge and said Neal has spent the last 20 years traveling the nation running booths at toy conventions and selling merchandise online.
