Tax levies pass in Oxford, Milford Twp., Morgan Twp.

Levies to improve infrastructure, fire protection or recreational services in Milford and Morgan townships and the city of Oxford won by 62 percent or better at the polls on Tuesday, according to final, unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections.

Here’s a look at results:

Oxford: A 10-year, 3.25-mill recreational trail levy was approved by a final, unofficial vote of was passing by 69 percent for to 31 percent against, according to final, unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections.

The approval of the levy means that an owner of a $100,000 home will pay $113.75 in new taxes.

“We’re very pleased with the results,” said City Manager Doug Elliott. “Now we can move forward with our project.”

The levy will help the city construct about 12 miles of trails in the next phase of the Oxford Area Trails project. The project’s first phase was completed in June 2017.

“It’s really exciting,” said Mayor Kate Rousmaniere. “This has been a community dream as people have been raising money for the project for more than 20 years.”

Rousmaniere said the project has been a part of Oxford’s comprehensive plan since 2008 and said that new revenues would be used to provide matching funds for various grants for the next phases of the project.

Morgan Twp.: Township Fire Chief Jeff Galloway said the fire department and the township trustees "are very appreciative of the voters approving the passage of the five-year, 2.5-mill renewal and 0.5-mill additional fire levy on Tuesday.

According to unofficial, final results from the Butler County Board of Elections, the fire levy was approved by a vote of 63.56 percent for to 36.44 percent against.

“We take pride in Morgan Twp. of giving excellent fire and EMS services to our residents,” Galloway said. “We do a lot of outreach and the people here were willing to pay more for the high-quality service that they receive.’

Galloway said the additional revenues will help to keep firefighter salaries more competitive in the southwest Ohio region and that the department plans to add staff so that will be at full-staff of four firefighters on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week as part of its five-year plan.

The owner of a $100,000 house will pay $87.52 a year in additional taxes, an increase of about $17.50.

Milford Twp.: A five-year, 2.0-mill tax levy to raise revenues for infrastructure in Milford Twp. was approved by an unofficial vote of 62.42 percent for to 37.58 percent against, according to unofficial, final results from the Butler County Board of Elections. Trustees President Paul Gillespie could not be reached for comment late Tuesday night.

Officials said the levy will help to pave the township’s 33 miles of roads. The new levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $70 more a year in new taxes.

The township has struggled financially to keep up with the costs of road repairs and maintenance after the state cut the local government revenues and the estate taxes which went to help cover township operations.
