Some Butler County voters will decide tax issue in Hamilton County

Residents in one precinct in Morgan Twp. will help decide whether a tax issue to build new school buildings for a Hamilton County school district passes or not in the Aug. 2 special election.

The Southwest Local School District in western Hamilton County has one Butler County precinct in its jurisdiction. Those couple hundred voters in Morgan Twp. 1, which is in southwest Butler County, are being asked to decide on a collective 4.45-mill levy which equates to $155 on a $100,000 home.

This tax issue is a two-part request.

The 3.95-mill request is to pay for the local match of the Ohio Classroom Facilities Assistance Program grant. This pays for the bricks and mortar of the project. The other 0.5 mills pays “for the acquisition, construction, enlargement, renovation and financing of permanent improvements.”

Details of the district's request, and why they need new facilities, can be found on the SLSD Facilities for the Future Facebook page.

Early voting begins Wednesday and voter registration for this special election ends Tuesday.
