Police: Apartment maintenance man stole from residents, sold some items

Middletown police have arrested a maintenance man at an apartment complex for several alleged burglaries and thefts.

Police said they have been investigating multiple thefts and burglaries reported at the Nicholas Place Apartments, 2747 S. Towne Blvd. Since October, there have been eight burglaries at the complex with no sign of forced entry, according to police.

However, police said the apartment complex’s maintenance man, Jaime Deluna, 33, allegedly sold a laptop computer that had recently been stolen.

A search warrant was served at Deluna’s apartment in the complex on Thursday morning where detectives found and recovered various items from previous burglaries. Deluna was arrested and charged with burglary and receiving stolen property and booked into the Middletown City Jail. He is slated to be arraigned on the charges at 8:30 a.m. Friday in Middletown Municipal Court.

In addition, police found that Deluna had previously been charged with aggravated burglary, abduction, and trafficking in drugs.

Police said Deluna is no longer working at Nicholas Place Apartments.

Maj. Scott Reeve, investigations commander, said more charges will likely be added as the case progresses. Anyone with information or unreported thefts should contact Detective Brook McDonald at 513-425-7745.
