Grand juries, which meet in secret, review criminal charges brought by police and prosecutors and investigate possible criminal behavior. The proceedings are usually one-sided, because the accused is not present and witnesses are not cross-examined.

A grand jury may issue an indictment if it finds probable cause that a crime was committed and the accused person is responsible. An indictment is an accusation that must then be proven in court. The grand jury may also elect to issue no indictment.

Indictments returned during a recent session of the Butler County grand jury:

Donnie Edward Hill, 300 Madison Ave., Trenton; indicted on six counts of felonious assault, four counts of domestic violence, and one count each of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated menacing.

Larry Cole, 4205 Roosevelt Blvd., Apt. 4, Middletown; certified back to the lower court on one count of domestic violence.

Andrew Martinez, 1269 Lane St., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated trafficking in drugs (direct), aggravated possession of drugs, and aggravated possession of drugs (direct).

Christopher Miller, 4404 Tarrimore Circle, Middletown; indicted on two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, and one count each of illegal conveyance of weapons or prohibited items onto grounds of specified governmental facility, and possession of heroin.

Jeremy M. Lawson, 30-A Dayspring Drive, Hamilton; indicted on one count each of possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, and operating a vehicle under the influence.

William A. Glenn, 7150 Northridge Drive, Cincinnati; indicted on one count each of tampering with evidence, possession of heroin, aggravated possession of drugs, and operation of motor vehicle under points suspension.

James M. Gable, 617 Malvern St., Middletown; certified back to the lower court on one count of petty theft.

Christopher C. Cook, 393 Barker Drive, Hamilton; indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs.

Tyler Douglas Lawrence, 1191 Parrish Ave., Hamilton; indicted on two counts each of aggravated trafficking in drugs (direct) and having weapons while under disability, and one count each of possession of heroin, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sherry Salcedo, 1933 Powers St., Cincinnati; indicted on one count each of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, forgery, driving under suspension, and obeying traffic control devices.

Denise A. Green, 2378 Golf Drive, Cincinnati; indicted on one count of forgery.

Jason E. Weber Sr., 277 Barnum St., Hamilton; certified back to the lower court on one count of endangering children.

Christopher M. Doerr, 1926 Carolina St., Middletown; indicted on one count of burglary.

Donald R. Dees, 17 Cranbrook Drive, Hamilton; indicted on one count each of forgery, passing bad checks, and theft by deception (direct).

Justin L. Mason, 1497 Exeter Ave., Apt. A, Hamilton; indicted on three counts of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated possession of drugs, driving under suspension, operating a motor vehicle bearing an invalid license plate or identification mark, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Jayonte Thompson, 7772 Stillwell Road, Apt. 2, Cincinnati; indicted on one count each of possession of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine (direct), trafficking in heroin, and possession of heroin.

Connor Milligan Loughran, 4010 Carrington Way, Hamilton; indicted on one count each of possession of cocaine and disorderly conduct.

Donald J. Bowling II, 570 S. 12th St., Hamilton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs, aggravated possession of drugs (direct), possessing drug abuse instruments, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Benjamin King, 307 Peyton Drive, Trenton; indicted on one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and obstructing official business.

Jeffrey Lynn Hibbard, 81 Garfiled Place, Hamilton; indicted on one count of burglary.

Scott L. Nelson, 20 N. 7th St., Hamilton; certified back to the lower court on one count of criminal trespass.

Chad J. Chambers, 500 Cincinnati Ave., Apt. 8, Lebanon; certified back to the lower court on one count each of falsification and obstructing official business.
