New West Chester business offers laundry pickup, delivery

Relax Wash + Fold is working to help people shoulder their laundry loads and free up their schedules.

Rather than working through mounds of laundry at home or at a laundromat, the new West Chester-based business offers customers pick up from home or office. Clothes are folded, sorted, wrapped and delivered within two business days or sooner.

Deatra and Mark Pottebaum, both of whom have entrepreneurial experience, opened the business this month after realizing there was a void in the local market compared to similar-sized or larger cities already offering such a service.

“We specifically have a bag for each person in the family, so if there’s a family of four with two adult and two kids, each family member will have their own bag,” he said. “It comes back sorted by person and by type of clothing.”

Relax Wash + Fold serves communities within and in close proximity to the Interstate 275 loop. Laundry or dry cleaning pick up can be scheduled for a certain day each week or month for reoccurring service or placed on demand via phone or email prior to 8 a.m. each business day.

Each batch of laundry costs $1.75 per pound to wash and dry with a 15-pound minimum. Wash + Fold Plans incrementally add savings with each step up in plans, going from 5 percent off for the $45 plan, to 10, 15 and 20 percent off for successive plans.

Each laundry load is washed and dried separately from other customers’ clothing at Relax Wash & Fold’s Tylersville Road facility, which is not accessible to the public.

Customers have ranged, so far, from millennials with busy work and social schedules to dual-income households “who want to do something other than laundry on the weekend” to older adults who no longer can negotiate stairs to basement laundry rooms, Pottebaum said.

“We see this as a service to the consumer,” he said. “We figure … how many hours it saves somebody every single month is just crazy.”
