New Liberty Twp. eatery features Mexican cuisine from family recipes

El Caporal Mexican Bar & Grill at 7206 Towne Centre Drive, next to The Web Extreme Entertainment, features a menu packed with a vast selection of botanas (appetizers), quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, tacos, seafood, soups, salads, specials and dessert.

“We decided to open the place … because we’ve seen it’s a growing area,” said owner Pedro Meza. “With that big mall (Liberty Center) coming up, we knew there was going to be a lot of people driving around.”

Lunch specials range between $5.49 and $7.85 and are served between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A “kids corner” selection features authentic Mexican fare , as well as traditional American cuisine like hamburgers, chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese for less adventurous taste buds.

Meza said the Liberty Twp. restaurant strives to offer not only quality food gleaned from his grandmother’s recipes, but also a fun, laid-back atmosphere, with four flatscreen televisions and a full bar.

He said steaks are cut in-house fresh daily from the best USDA choice Angus meats.

Lisa and Brent Dixon of Liberty Twp. stopped by the new restaurant Thursday and said the fajita salad and a chicken fajita were “delicious.”

“It’s wonderful to have it so close by,” she said. “It’s really good food and we’ll definitely come back again.”

The 3,000-square-foot Liberty Twp. location of El Caporal is a family affair, with Meza’s wife, two brothers, sister and nephew all playing a role there, as well as a 4,000-square-foot Mason location, which opened at 6011 Tylersville Road in 2008.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays, noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 9 p.m. Sundays. Happy hour is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Daily drink specials include a 20-ounce margarita for $5.99.
