Ohio Democrat: ‘Our brand is worse than Trump’

Republicans won the Georgia congressional special election Tuesday night, despite millions spent by Democrats hoping to score wins in the age of President Donald Trump.

The special election in the 6th congressional district was the most expensive in U.S. history with spending over $50 million. Republican Karen Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in the race, 52-48 percent.

Republicans focused a lot of the campaign on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. They branded Ossoff as a continuation of her liberal policies.

One Democratic congressman from Ohio, says the GOP strategy is working.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Youngstown, says the Democratic brand is “toxic.”

“Our brand is worse that Trump,” said Ryan, who challenged Pelosi to lead House Democrats after the 2016 election.

Ryan said the party is not “able to connect with the issues they (voters) care about.”
