Monroe’s Main Street to close for ‘extremely heavy load’

An “extremely heavy load” will make its way through Monroe on Monday evening, forcing the closure of Main Street, according to city officials.

North Main Street between Todhunter and East Garver roads will be closed from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, to accommodate the move of equipment to the NTE Energy construction site from a nearby rail yard.

A detour will be posted, and police officers will be stationed at each end of the closure to divert traffic.

In December, contractors used the same route to slowly move an extremely heavy load from the rail yard to the construction site of the NTE Energy plant.
