Monroe police honored the life of one of its K-9 officers on Wednesday.
Rusty, 13, served the Monroe Police Department as a patrol and drug canine from 2007-13, according to Officer Joshua King.
King said the canine worked under two handlers, Officer (now Detective) Gregg Myers and Officer Mike Doughman.
“Rusty took a lot of drugs off the streets,” King said.
He said the canine was euthanized due to a loss of mobility.
Representatives from 10 area police departments paid their respects during a memorial service for Rusty.
