Vampires in Hamilton? They’re just filming a new TV series

Vampires are making their way to downtown Hamilton to film a segment for a new television series.

The television show "Electric Tapes" is bringing back the campy feel of the 1960s "Dark Shadows" television series, said Rick Henry, co-creator of the series that recently filmed around Hamilton.

Henry said he was always drawn to “local, late night B-movie TV shows” as a youngster. So he and co-creator Richard Byrne decided to make a fun B-movie show.

" 'Electric Tapes' is the evolution of the late night B-movie show," Henry said. "Instead of showing old public domain movies that no one cares about anyway, why not make our own serial style short movies that end with cliffhangers?"

Both men, who work for a Cincinnati television news station, say that with countless other ways to get programming online, the “old black and white movie” model of TV production is probably not going to succeed.

So they created original, short serial movies that tell a bigger story over multiple episodes. They plan to film on-location at local events and host the show from a local business.

That is why they were recently seen filming — at the Almond Sisters Bakery in downtown Hamilton.

“I’d say its a combination of youthful energy, support for local artists, and the nostalgia,” Henry said of choosing the downtown bakery for their first stop in filming.

Jenni Hubbard, one of the co-owners of Almond Sisters, said it was a thrill to have “Electric Tapes” film at the bakery and make Hamilton a part of another production.

The show will be making its debut this fall, according to Henry.

“It’s going to be on Star 64,” he said. “The time slot is still being negotiated, but it’s definitely happening.”
