SpiritSong: 24 years of Christian music and family fun

Kings Island to host three-day event.

Thousands of contemporary Christian music fans and their families are gearing up for the 24th annual SpiritSong festival at Kings Island, which will be held on Thursday, June 22, through Saturday, June 24.

Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said for many of the park’s visitors, SpiritSong has become an annual tradition. Many guests plan for it well in advance.

“They come from all over the region. They come specifically for SpiritSong. Of course, they love the park, but SpiritSong is what attracts them to come to the park in the first place. It’s an opportunity for families to spend quality time together, and having that ‘best day of the year experience,’ ” Helbig said.

This year, festivalgoers will experience a new ride, Mystic Timbers, a 109-foot-tall wooden roller coaster. The coaster is 3,265-foot long and travels through wooded terrain at speeds up to 53 miles per hour. Riders will also experience 16 air-time moments.

“Mystic Timbers has opened to rave reviews, and it has quickly emerged as one of the best wooden roller coasters in the country. It didn’t take long for it to start climbing the charts. … Our guests absolutely love it,” Helbig said.

The SpiritSong festival will showcase major acts from across the country at King’s Island’s 10,000-seat, outdoor Timberwolf Amphitheatre. Artists performing range from pop and rock to hip-hop, and the music appeals to guests of all ages.

“SpiritSong features national headlining artists, who are some of the most popular names in contemporary Christian music. That’s been the case since this event debuted at Kings Island,” Helbig said.

The three-day music festival will feature more than a dozen artists, including TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Crowder, Mac Powell, Skillet, Tedashii and Red, among others. Comedian and actor Bone Hampton will serve as the festival’s emcee.

As part of SpiritSong, guests will enjoy two parks, along with the concerts. When you purchase a ticket for SpritSong, you also have access to Kings Island and Soak City Waterpark.

SpiritSong attendees regularly travel from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Michigan, West Virginia and Tennessee.
