Social media celebrates story of Hamilton man playing piano to wife of 67 years

Readers of the Journal-News said they were inspired by the love story of a Hamilton man who plays his piano every night for his wife because he’s unable to visit her in a retirement village due to the coronavirus.

The story became one of the Journal-News’ most-read related to COVID-19 since publishing on Sunday morning. The story was shared more than 330 times and garnered about 50 comments on Facebook.

Dave Belew, 88, said he started playing a piano concert for his wife, Marge, 88, after Westover, a Hamilton retirement village, restricted vistors because of the coronavirus. Every night at 6 p.m., he calls his wife of 67 years, and plays her five or six songs on the piano.

One reader wrote: “What a precious example of true love!”

Another reader wrote: “These are the stories that bring a much needed heartfelt smile during such an ugly and trying times. God bless them both.”
